A GEO tool tracks how AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity answer the questions your buyers ask. GEO stands for generative engine optimization. This guide compares nine GEO tools: FullReach AI, Peec AI, Profound, Otterly AI, Scrunch, AthenaHQ, Semrush AI Visibility, Ahrefs Brand Radar and Rankscale. They differ in the AI platforms each plan includes, in price, and in what the tool does with the answers. FullReach AI is our own product, and it comes first.
What is a GEO tool?
GEO stands for generative engine optimization. It is the work of getting a brand named and cited in the answers of AI assistants.
A GEO tool measures that work. It asks AI platforms a fixed set of questions on a schedule and stores each answer. Then it counts the answers that name your brand, the competitors they name, and the sources they cite.
The same tools carry other names: AI visibility tools, AI search analytics, AEO tools and LLM trackers. Some of them also write content, or act through agents.
Which GEO tools can you choose from?
The table lists nine tools in three columns: the AI platforms each tool covers, who it fits and where it stops. FullReach AI is our own product, and it comes first.
| Tool | AI platforms | Best for | Limitation |
|---|---|---|---|
| FullReach AI | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Mode, Google AI Overviews, Grok, on every plan. Each prompt runs once a day on each platform, and each number opens into the answers it counts. | Marketing teams and agencies that want seven AI platforms measured daily at one price. | No Claude tracking and no REST API. Product cards from ChatGPT only, and no ads tracking, content generation or agent layer. |
| Peec AIRead on | Three models of your choice on each self-serve plan, from ChatGPT, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Mode, AI Overviews and Naver AI. Perplexity and further models are monthly add-ons. Grok and Claude are Enterprise, via API. | Marketing teams that want many features, with three models on each plan. | Three models per plan, with a monthly charge per further model. One country on Starter and three on Pro and Advanced. |
| ProfoundRead on | ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews on the trial. Up to nine answer engines on Enterprise, Claude, DeepSeek and Exa Search among them. | Enterprises whose security review needs SOC 2 and SSO, and teams that want agents rather than a dashboard. | No published price and no self-serve plan. The trial has no exports, history, API or support. |
| Otterly AIRead on | ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot on every plan. Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude as monthly add-ons. | Small teams that want ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot on every plan, from 15 prompts a month. | The entry plan has 15 prompts. Gemini, Google AI Mode and Claude cost extra each month. |
| ScrunchRead on | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot on Core. Nine engines on Enterprise, including Gemini, Google AI Mode, Claude, Meta AI and Grok. | Teams that want four engines on one self-serve plan, and enterprises that want content delivery to AI agents as well as monitoring. | Four engines, one country and five competitors on the paid self-serve plan. API, MCP and Data Studio are Enterprise features. |
| AthenaHQRead on | ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, Grok, DeepSeek, Meta AI and Mistral on Starter. Five engines on the free plan. | Small teams that want many models and an agent that edits content, and can budget in credits. | Credits, not prompts. 3,600 responses a month is 120 a day, so about 11 prompts a day on all eleven models. Single region on Starter. API is a paid add-on. |
| Semrush AI VisibilityRead on | ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini for your own prompts. Its database of AI answers also covers Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. | Teams already paying for Semrush who want AI visibility in the same login. | Your own prompts run on three AI platforms. The toolkit covers one domain, and each extra user costs more. |
| Ahrefs Brand RadarRead on | ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot, with Claude at eight checks per update. | Existing Ahrefs customers, and established brands that want to benchmark against a large prompt database. | Custom prompts cost per check, so daily tracking on every platform adds up. The index fits brands that already appear in AI answers. |
| RankscaleRead on | ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, DeepSeek, Mistral, Grok, Copilot and more, chosen per search term. Coverage depends on how credits are spent. | Agencies that want many engines and white-label dashboards at a low price and can manage a credit budget. | Plans sell credits, not prompts. The answers a plan buys depend on the engines picked, so the plan card does not state the price per prompt with every engine. |
Each rival row states the day we read its pages. Our guide to AI visibility tools states each tool's prices and sources, and the price of one prompt on every platform.
What features should you look for in a GEO tool?
- The AI platforms on the plan. Check which platforms the price includes, and which ones cost extra each month.
- Answers you can open. A figure counts stored answers. Check that you can read each answer, with its platform and its date.
- Markets and languages. The same question can name other brands in another country or language.
- Sources. The tool should list the pages that the answers cite. Those pages show where a brand must appear.
- The searches behind an answer. Some platforms search the web before they answer. A tool that records those searches shows what the platform searched for.
- Your own site. Some tools also count the AI crawlers that request your pages, and the visits that AI assistants send.
- What to do next. Some tools only report. Others list actions, write content or run agents. Check which evidence each suggestion names.
- Reports and access. Check the reports and the exports, and whether an API or an MCP server reads the data.
What are the pros and cons of GEO tools?
A GEO tool gives you three things that a manual check does not.
- Scale. It asks every prompt on every platform on a schedule, and nobody types a question.
- A trend. One answer says little, because AI answers change from day to day. Many stored answers show a trend.
- Evidence. The stored answers show which competitors win a question, and which sources the answers cite.
A GEO tool also has limits.
- It measures the prompts you choose. It does not see the questions that real users type. Our guide on which prompts to track shows how the choice of prompts sets the level of every figure.
- Tools count differently. Two tools can report the same answers correctly and still disagree. Our guide on why the numbers differ measures how far one figure moves.
- A figure does not move by itself. Somebody must still change the pages and the sources that the answers read.
- The price grows with prompts and platforms. An add-on for each further platform can raise the price of a plan.
What are the alternatives to a GEO tool?
- A manual check. Ask the questions yourself in ChatGPT or Gemini. It is free, and it fits a first look. An assistant that knows your history can answer you differently, and one answer shows no trend.
- An SEO suite with an AI module. Semrush and Ahrefs sell AI visibility beside their SEO tools. The table above lists both.
- Your web analytics. GA4 shows the visits that AI assistants send to your site. It does not show the answers that omit your brand.
- A script over a model API. It reads the API's answer, which can differ from the answer in the public app. You also build the storage and the counting yourself.
How do you choose a GEO tool?
- List the AI platforms that your buyers use.
- Count your prompts for each market and language. Our guide on how many prompts to track explains the count.
- Compare the price of that set on each tool, with its add-ons.
- Where two tools offer a free trial, run both on the same prompts for a week. Then compare the answers.
