TL;DR

How to get mentioned in ChatGPT comes down to the pages it cites. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, ChatGPT gave 1,307 answers to the buying questions of our own project and cited 2,706 pages. Vendor pages took 51% of the citations, roundups 29%, guides 15% and review sites 1%. 689 of the 914 cited roundups carried 2026 in their title or address. Four moves follow: get onto the roundups, publish the page that answers the question, let the OpenAI crawlers in, and keep your reviews current.

In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, Grok searched "challenges in achieving brand visibility in AI" 25 times before it answered our prompts.

This guide reads the pages ChatGPT cited for the buying questions of our own project, and it reports what those pages have in common. Four moves follow, with one example from our worklist for each. If ChatGPT names you nowhere, read first our guide on the five causes of a brand's absence from AI answers. It gives a test for each cause.

How to get mentioned in ChatGPT: which pages does it cite?

ChatGPT cites vendor pages first, then roundups, then guides. A cited page is a URL that an answer links as a source. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, ChatGPT gave 1,307 answers to our project's questions. It cited 10,452 sources on 923 domains, at 3,223 URLs. 517 of the URLs were image files on an OpenAI host. The other 2,706 are pages, with 9,448 citations between them. The table sorts them by what a company could do about each page.

Page kindWhat it isShare of citationsShare of pages
VendorA company's own page about itself51%38%
RoundupA page that ranks, lists or compares several products29%34%
GuideA page that teaches rather than lists15%22%
OtherA research paper, a document, a page no kind fits4%5%
DirectoryA listing that any company can join, such as a review site1%1%

The citations concentrate. 1,492 of the 2,706 pages, 55%, received one citation in the 28 days. The 100 most cited pages received 36% of all citations. Every citation count in this guide comes from the ChatGPT answers alone. The worklist counts span all 7 platforms. The methodology states how FullReach AI collects and labels the answers.

What do the cited pages have in common?

Three things: the page type above, a title that names a comparison, and a current year. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, 1,000 of the 2,706 page titles contained "best", "top", "alternatives", "vs", "review" or "pricing". Those pages took 3,105 citations, 33% of the total. Of the 914 roundups, 689 carried 2026 in their title or address. Those 689 took 2,167 of the 2,736 roundup citations, 79%.

ChatGPT searches the web before it answers, and the searches show what it looks for. In the same 28 days, it ran 1,477 searches behind 696 of the 1,307 answers, 53%. 314 of those searches named one monitored rival in their wording, 309 named a second, and 145 named a third. None named our brand. Our guide on generative engine visibility gaps lists the prompts that name a rival and not you, and ranks them by answers lost.

Move one: how do you get onto the roundups ChatGPT cites?

Ask the author of a cited roundup to add your brand, one roundup at a time, starting with the one behind the most lost answers. On ChatGPT, roundups and directories together took 30% of the citations in our 28 days. The evidence behind the move is a correlation across many brands, graded Moderate on our methodology page.

Our worklist turns the move into rows. Each row names one roundup, the losing answers that cited it, and the platforms those answers came from. On 30 October 2026, the largest roundup row named a third-party best-of list with 482 losing answers across the platforms. The rows for the week of 26 October 2026 named two other third-party lists, with 86 and 99 losing answers.

The weekly list of the Actions page, on sample data. Each row is one roundup, forum or competitor page, with the losing answers it touches and the platforms they came from.

  1. Open the row, and read two of the answers that cited the page.
  2. Write to the author with the fact the list lacks about your product, in two sentences.
  3. Mark the row done, and read its answer count again after four weeks.

Move two: which page of your own should answer the question?

Publish or improve the page that answers the buying question in its own words, because vendor pages took half of the citations. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, 148 of the 1,031 cited vendor pages were homepages. They took 1,368 of the 4,806 vendor citations, 28%. The other 72% went to deeper pages: pricing, features, help articles and comparisons. In the same 28 days, the three most cited pages were the homepages of three rivals, with 300, 288 and 255 citations.

In the same window, our own site received 42 citations at 10 pages, rank 28 of the 923 domains. The homepage took 10, a guide on GEO tools took 8, and a comparison page took 8. On 30 October 2026, its two largest content rows asked us to improve one product page to answer two agency questions. They touched 1,312 and 1,278 losing answers across 7 platforms.

Our methodology grades this move Moderate. Our guide on what Google says about AI Overviews and AI Mode summarizes the advice Google gives for pages in its AI features.

Move three: can the OpenAI crawlers read your site?

Check that they can before you publish anything, because a blocked crawler cannot read the page. On 30 October 2026, our audit found that fullreach.ai allowed all three OpenAI crawlers through one rule, "Allow: /". None of the six sites our project monitors blocked a crawler on that day. Our methodology grades this move Strong. Our guide on how to check whether AI crawlers can read your website names the crawlers and gives the robots.txt, rendering and log checks.

Move four: do reviews get you mentioned in ChatGPT?

Review sites supplied a small share of the ChatGPT citations in our category, so reviews rank behind the first two moves. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, directory pages, review sites among them, took 131 of the 9,448 citations, 1.4%, at 36 pages. The most cited review site took 58 of them. Our methodology grades it Moderate with the other third-party moves. Keep your profile current on the review site that the answers cite most. Spend the rest of the time on moves one and two.

How do you know a move worked?

Count the answers that name you before the move and four weeks after it, on the same questions. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, ChatGPT named our brand in 13 of its 1,307 answers, 1.0%. It recommended us in 11 of the 13. The most named rival stood in 47% of the answers, and the least named in 11%. Of the 1,307 answers, 718, 55%, named at least one of the six monitored brands.

The worklist keeps its own score. A row marked done keeps its answer count, and the count falls when the answers stop citing a rival alone. On 30 October 2026, the worklist of our project held 40 rows marked done. Our guide on what an AI visibility tool is explains what the tool stores and when a manual check is enough. FullReach AI costs 65€, 165€ and 360€ a month, billed yearly, for 50, 150 and 350 prompts, with every platform included.
