Free GEO tools: what you can check before you pay

TL;DR

A free GEO tool answers one of two questions once: can AI crawlers read your site, or which brands do AI platforms name today? The free AI Visibility Checker asks ten buyer questions on ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity and mails you the 30 answers. The AI crawler checker gives each AI crawler a verdict from your robots.txt. Neither gives a trend. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, our own project had 0% visibility on 14 days and 0.3% on the other 14.

A marketing manager asks this before any budget for AI visibility exists. This guide lists the four checks that cost nothing, what each one tells you, and what it cannot. For the definition of the category, read what GEO tools are. For the hours a manual check takes at 20, 50 and 100 prompts, read the tool or manual check guide.

Which free GEO tools can you use?

Four free GEO tools cover the two questions of GEO: can AI platforms read your site, and do their answers name you? Each free check answers one of the two questions once. A paid tool answers both every day.

What does the free AI Visibility Checker tell you?

The AI Visibility Checker asks ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity ten questions that a buyer asks about your category. It reads your website first and writes the questions from it. No question names your brand. The 3 platforms give 30 answers. The mail shows how many answers name the brand, which competitors they name instead, and the pages they cite. A snapshot needs a company email and no account. It stays online for 30 days.

The check is a first look, not a verdict, because 30 answers are a small sample. Our own project shows why. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, on 7 AI platforms, FullReach AI appeared in 14 of 8,953 answers, 0.2%. Its visibility was 0% on 14 of those days, the first 12 among them. On each of the other 14 days, one answer in about 330 named it. At 0.2%, a check of 30 answers expects about 0.05 mentions, so it most likely finds none.

What does the AI crawler checker tell you?

The AI crawler checker reads a site's robots.txt and homepage, and gives each documented AI crawler a verdict: allowed, blocked, or blocked with exceptions. Each verdict names the line that decides it. Our guide on the crawler check explains how it decides. Our table of AI crawler user agents lists each crawler's user agent and its robots.txt line.

Access is not visibility. A crawler may read every page of a site, and no answer may name the brand. Our guide on what GEO tools are measures that gap on our own site.

What does Google Search Console tell you about AI answers?

Search Console reports the clicks and impressions of your own pages in Google Search. Our guide on AI Overviews states where that report counts Google's AI features. Two limits hold for GEO. It counts your pages only, so an answer that names a rival and cites the rival's page never appears in it. It reports a click, not a mention, so an AI answer that names your brand without a link leaves no trace.

Its query list has one use for GEO. It shows the questions people type into Google, and those questions seed a prompt set. In the 90 days to 29 October 2026, our own pages appeared 150 times in Google results for "ai visibility tools". They got 0 clicks, at an average position of 53.1. That query names no brand, so it can serve as a prompt as it stands. By default, FullReach AI counts only the prompts that name no brand, so a question cannot lift the brand's own numbers. Our guide on a prompt set from Search Console builds the set from that list.

What does a manual prompt sheet tell you?

A manual prompt sheet is a spreadsheet with one row per question and one column per platform for the brands each answer names. For the day you ask, it tells you which brands an answer names, in which order, and which pages it cites. Our guide on the tool or the manual check counts the hours per week at 20, 50 and 100 prompts, and offers the template.

The sheet misses two things that a stored answer holds. The first is the web searches a platform ran before it answered. Only ChatGPT and Grok report them. Our guide on alternatives to GEO tools counts those searches for our own project. Our guide on a marketing plan counts how often they named each rival. The second is the failed attempt. Our guide on the visibility score counts the failed attempts beside the analyzed answers. A sheet of final answers records neither.

When does the free route stop being enough?

The free route stops when the question changes from "do they name us?" to "did it change?". A snapshot answers the first. Only a daily series answers the second, because an AI answer differs from one day to the next. Our guide on why the numbers move measures how far one figure moves between two days.

The free checks cost time instead of money. The manual check guide measures that time per prompt and per platform, and the prompt count at which a tool costs less. A paid tool asks the same questions every day on every platform and keeps every answer. FullReach AI costs 65€, 165€ and 360€ a month, billed yearly, for 50, 150 and 350 prompts, with every platform included. The price buys three things the free checks do not hold. They are the stored answers behind every figure, every platform in one count, and the searches behind the answers.

What to do next

  1. Run the AI crawler checker on your site. Fix any blocked crawler first.
  2. Run the AI Visibility Checker on ten questions. Note the brands and the cited pages.
  3. If the answers name rivals and not you, start a trial on the same questions. Our guide on how many prompts to track sets the count.
