Alternatives to GEO tools: suites, agencies, scripts and sheets

TL;DR

The alternatives to GEO tools are four: the AI add-on of an SEO suite, an agency, a script on the model APIs, and a spreadsheet. Each one leaves out a part of the tool's work: platforms, stored answers, or the brands you did not type. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, our own project analyzed 8,953 AI answers on 7 platforms. Semrush appeared in 2,471 of them and Ahrefs in 1,614, and neither is a tool the project monitors.

Our own project asks the AI platforms for alternatives to GEO tools in seven prompts, and this guide reads their answers. It takes the four routes that need no GEO platform. For each one it states what it covers, what it misses and which team it fits. For the definition of a GEO tool and its five job families, read what GEO tools are.

What are the alternatives to GEO tools?

The alternatives to GEO tools are four: the AI add-on of an SEO suite, an agency, a script on the model APIs, and a spreadsheet. Each one answers which brands the AI platforms name when a buyer asks. None of them does all of the tool's work, and this guide names the part each one leaves out.

Our own project tracks the AI visibility tool category on 7 AI platforms. Its prompt list for the 28 days to 30 October 2026 holds seven prompts in the topic "Alternatives to GEO tools". They ask for alternatives to GEO tools, to a spreadsheet or to a check by hand. In those 28 days, the seven prompts got 1,343 answers. 698 of them, 52%, named one of the five GEO tools the project monitors.

The platforms also searched the web before they answered. In the same 28 days, Grok and ChatGPT ran at least 98 searches with the words "alternatives to GEO tools", in 18 wordings. They ran at least 31 more for alternatives to a spreadsheet or to a check by hand.

Which SEO suites sell an AI add-on?

Semrush and Ahrefs each sell an AI visibility add-on to an SEO suite, and we hold a dated record of both. SE Ranking is a third suite that the AI platforms name beside them. We hold no dated record of its add-on, so this guide states no figure for it.

In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, the seven alternatives prompts got 1,343 answers. Semrush appeared in 503, Ahrefs in 440 and SE Ranking in 187. In the same 28 days, on 7 AI platforms, the project analyzed 8,953 answers to all its prompts. Semrush appeared in 2,471 of them, 28%. Ahrefs appeared in 1,614, 18%, and SE Ranking in 1,030, 12%. None of the three is a monitored competitor in the project. The analysis detected them on its own, without a list.

The platforms also read and cite the suites' own pages. In the same 28 days, at least 55 of the web searches that ChatGPT and Grok ran named Semrush or Ahrefs, in 13 wordings. Across all the project's answers, semrush.com was the second most cited domain, with 1,807 citations in 1,435 answers. The ahrefs.com domain took 717 citations, and seranking.com took 501.

We read the Semrush pricing page on 29 September 2026 and the Ahrefs pricing page on 29 September 2026. The table states what each page held on that day.

The coverage column states the platforms each add-on runs your prompts on. Our Semrush toolkit guide states how Semrush computes its score and what the score leaves out.

What does an agency give you?

An agency gives you people who do the GEO work for a monthly fee. The AI platforms name tools, not agencies, when a buyer asks for an alternative. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, none of the 15 brands named most often in the 1,343 alternatives answers was an agency. Our agency or tool guide holds the public rate cards, what an agency adds beside a tool, and a rule for which to pick.

What does a script on the model APIs give you?

A script gives you the reply that a model API returns to each of your prompts, on a schedule you set. The reply is the model's text. The search list behind the answer is a separate record.

In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, Grok and ChatGPT answered the seven alternatives prompts. Before those answers, they ran at least 402 web searches, in 56 wordings. The answers to those prompts held 7,276 citations, to 995 domains. Our manual check guide states which of these records an API reply carries, and which it lacks.

What does a spreadsheet give you?

A spreadsheet gives you a record of the answers you read yourself, at no cost but your hours. It covers the platforms you open, on the days you open them.

To record the 1,343 answers to the seven alternatives prompts, a sheet takes about 48 a day, over the 28 days to 30 October 2026. The analysis detected 607 brands in those answers, without a list. A sheet holds only the brands you type into it. Our manual check guide holds the template and the hours at each prompt count.

Which alternative fits which team?

Pick the route by who reads the answers, and by the prompts, markets and clients they report on. The table adds the GEO tool as the fifth route, so the four compare with it.
