Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit: what the score leaves out

TL;DR

The Semrush AI visibility score is the headline number of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit. For your own prompts, it counts the answers of three AI platforms. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, the other four platforms gave 56% of the answers our own project analyzed on seven AI platforms. One score also hides the brands you did not type, the market, and what each answer says about you. This guide measures each gap on our own project.

A marketing manager who already pays for Semrush asks this before adding the AI toolkit. An agency owner asks it when a client's report shows a Semrush score beside a different score from another tool. This guide states what our dated record of Semrush's pages holds and which AI platforms the score covers. It then measures what any single score hides, on our own project. For the formula behind a visibility score and the denominators the vendors use, read our guide on the visibility score formula. For the three other routes beside a suite's add-on, read our guide on alternatives to GEO tools.

What is the Semrush AI visibility score?

The Semrush AI visibility score is the headline number of the Semrush AI Visibility Toolkit, an add-on to the Semrush SEO suite. Semrush AI Visibility is the AI search module of the Semrush SEO suite. It tracks custom prompts daily on ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini, alone or inside the Semrush One plans. We read its pricing and documentation pages on 29 September 2026. Their features: Custom prompt tracking, AI visibility reports for any domain, AI sentiment, prompt research and an AI-ready site audit. The whole SEO toolset in Semrush One. Our record holds no formula for the score.

Buyers search for the number by name. In the 90 days to 29 October 2026, Search Console counted nine queries that named Semrush on fullreach.ai, with 23 impressions and no click. Two of them asked for the score, with 7 impressions. Two compared Semrush with Peec AI, with 8. One asked which models the score covers. The AI platforms ask too. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, ChatGPT and Grok searched the web before they answered our prompts. Seven of their search wordings named Semrush, and those ran 29 times in all. One asked for the official features of the toolkit, five times. One asked semrush.com itself about the toolkit and AI Overviews, seven times.

Which AI platforms does the Semrush score cover?

ChatGPT Search, Google AI Mode and Gemini for your own prompts. Its database of AI answers also covers Google AI Overviews and Perplexity. Our alternatives guide sets that coverage beside the Ahrefs add-on. This section measures what the other platforms hold.

In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, on 7 AI platforms, our own project analyzed 8,953 answers. ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode gave 3,923 of them, 44%. The other four platforms gave 5,030, 56%. Of the 4,792 answers that named a monitored brand, 2,746 came from those four platforms, 57%. The same four also gave 25,927 of the 49,698 citations, 52%. A score over three platforms does not see those answers, the brands in them, or the pages they cite.

Which brands and markets does one score hide?

A single score counts the brands you typed, in the markets you chose, and it shows one number for all of them. Our project's 28 days to 30 October 2026 show what that hides.

  • The brands you did not type. The project monitors five rivals. 4,161 of the 8,953 answers, 46%, named no monitored brand at all. The analysis also detected brands that nobody monitors, three SEO suites among them. Our alternatives guide counts the answers that named each suite. A score over the typed brands alone counts none of those names.
  • The market. The project ran its prompts Worldwide, and until 14 October 2026 in Ireland as well. The Worldwide answers named a monitored brand in 2,866 of 5,258, 55%. The Ireland answers did so in 1,926 of 3,695, 52%. One score for the project shows neither figure.

What does a score say about perception?

A score counts the answers that name a brand and does not read what they say about it. The features in our record of Semrush's pages, listed above, include AI sentiment. Our guide on AI brand perception defines what perception adds beyond a sentiment label.

Our own project reads perception from a separate weekly set of questions that name each brand outright. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, it stored 216 such answers about FullReach AI. 120 of them described our company. 84 described another company with a similar name, 10 did not name us, and 2 were unclear. A name count credits all 216 to us. 38 answers held an objection to FullReach AI, and pricing was the most frequent objection theme, with 24 mentions. A score shows none of that.

Which pages of semrush.com do the AI platforms cite?

The AI platforms cite semrush.com for its lists of AI visibility tools more than for its own toolkit pages. Our guide on GEO, SEO and AEO ranks semrush.com among all the cited domains. This section reads which of its pages drew the citations. In the 28 days to 30 October 2026, the answers cited 238 URLs on semrush.com. The 20 most cited drew 1,226 citations. Six of the 20 are roundups that rank AI visibility tools, with 409 citations. Three are the toolkit's own pricing pages, with 127. The home page, in three spellings, took 366.

That matters for a brand that measures itself with the add-on alone. In the same 28 days, the largest Action against a vendor site on our worklist targets semrush.com. 812 answers cited a semrush.com page and named a monitored rival of ours, not us. The next vendor site, ahrefs.com, has 249. A score alone does not show which cited pages carried the rivals' names.

When is the Semrush add-on enough?

The add-on is enough when four things hold. You already pay for Semrush. You track one domain in one market. Your buyers ask ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode. You report one number a month, and nobody asks what stands behind it.

You need a dedicated tool when one of these holds:

  1. Your buyers ask Perplexity, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and Grok, and you want their answers counted.
  2. You run more than one market, or a project per client, and you want each one's own number.
  3. You want the answers behind the number: each brand, each cited page and each objection.

Our roundup sets every tool we compare in one table, with the day we read each one. For the three kinds of product that the words "generative AI SEO tool" cover, read our guide on generative AI SEO tools.

The AI Visibility Toolkit is 94.94€ a month per domain for 25 prompts, on either billing period. Semrush One is 190.84€, 286.74€ or 526.49€ a month for 50, 100 or 200 prompts. Billed yearly, it is 158.40€, 238€ or 436.99€ a month. Extra users from 43€ a month. Read on 29 September 2026. Our pricing guide prices every plan we compare for the platforms you pick. FullReach AI costs 65€, 165€ and 360€ a month, billed yearly, for 50, 150 and 350 prompts, with every platform included.

What to do next

  1. List the AI platforms your buyers use. Check them against the ones in Semrush's record above.
  2. Run ten of your prompts in the free checker. Note the brands the answers name that you did not type.
  3. If the answers on the other platforms name rivals, start a tool that covers them.

Our guide on how many prompts to track sets the count of prompts for that tool. For how FullReach AI collects the answers, read the methodology.
